TRB Annual Meeting 2026
We (Fred, Mathi, and Rayane) attended the TRB (Transportation Research Board) Annual Meeting 2026 in Washington DC and presented two papers on bicycling safety sponsored by our NSF CAREER project.

The lidar bike paper
The first paper is titled “Quantifying drivers overtaking bicyclists with surrogate safety measures derived from high-resolution digital lidar” (TRBAM-26-04623). The lead author Rayane Moustafa presented the paper at the lectern session “Expanding the Definition of Safety Data”.

The computer vision paper
The second paper is titled “A geometry-informed computer vision method for detecting and examining overtaking vehicles from a bicycle” (TRBAM-26-04593). The lead author Gandhimathi (Mathi) presented the paper at the poster session “Human Factors Research Medley 2”.
